Your Apple TV Is Getting a Simple But Welcome Upgrade

Apple is gearing up to release tvOS 26.4, the next important software update coming to your Apple TV. The first developer and public betas were released this week, meaning you can probably expect the official release sometime in the next month (if not early April).

The update will bring some notable changes to your Apple TV. Maybe most significantly, Apple is getting rid of the iTunes Movies and iTunes TV Shows apps, as it’s essentially consolidating them into the Apple TV app.

But, as first reported by 9to5Mac, some early beta testers have discovered that it’s bringing a key fix, particularly for users who have Apple TVs and a Sonos home theater system.

tvOS 26.4 is now in public beta.

To date, there’s been a common issue affecting Apple TV users with AV receivers paired with Sonos speakers and hardware. When the switch to channels or content that are mixed for 5.1-channel PCM audio, they hear crackling, or the volume levels drop unexpectedly.

The good news is that Apple is rolling out a new feature — or rather, a new setting — that fixes just that. It’s called “Continuous Audio Connection.”
