Fallout Season 2’s eighth episode, which is the season finale, is dropping earlier than expected this week.
Fallout, of course, is based on Bethesda Softworks’ video game series of the same name. The premiere episode of Fallout Season 2, of course, was also released a day earlier than expected when it premiered on Prime Video on Tuesday, Dec. 17. After that, the series began its regular Wednesday schedule.
Fallout Season 2 began with vault dweller Lucy MacLean (Ella Purnell) and The Ghoul/Cooper Howard (Walton Goggins) traversing the Mojave Desert on their way to the post-apocalyptic city of New Vegas, where Lucy hopes to bring her father, Hank (Kyle MacLachlan), to justice after learning of role in the nuclear apocalypse.
The Ghoul, meanwhile, is hoping to get answers about what became of his wife, Vault-Tec executive Barb Howard (Frances Turner), and their young daughter, Janey (Teagan Meredith).

Also examined in Fallout Season 2 are Cooper’s pre-war encounters with the megalomaniac industrialist Robert House (Justin Theroux); Maximus’ (Aaron Moten) reluctant transition to becoming a knight in The Brotherhood; the consequences Norm (Moises Arias) faces after awakening the Vault-Tec executives in Vault 31 from their cryo sleep; and how the truth of Steph Harper’s (Annabel O’Hagan) past begins to emerge after she becomes the Overseer of Vault 32.
The Fallout Season 2 finale will begin streaming Tuesday at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT on Prime Video. All eight episodes of Fallout Season 1 and the first seven episodes of Fallout Season 2 are currently available to stream on the platform.
For viewers who don’t have a Prime Video subscription, the streaming platform is one of the benefits of being an Amazon Prime subscriber, which costs $14.99 or $139 per year. In addition, Prime Video-only subscriptions are available for $8.99 per month.
How Has ‘Fallout Season 2’ Been Received By Critics?
Created by Geneva Robertson-Dworet and Graham Wagner, Fallout Season 2 has been widely embraced by Rotten Tomatoes reviewers, who collectively have given the season a “fresh” critics’ score of 97% “fresh” based on 144 reviews.
The RT Critics Consensus for the second season of the series reads, “Fallout Season Two successfully expands its post-apocalyptic world to deliver everything audiences could want from a video game adaptation, including sumptuous visuals and riveting performances.”
Fallout Season 2 also received a 96% “fresh” score on RT’s Popcornmeter based on 2,500-plus verified user ratings. The RT audience summary reads, “Fallout S2 is a word-building wonder and a blast — arguably one of the best video adaptations available in streaming!”
By contrast, Fallout Season 1 earned a 93% “fresh” critics’ score on RT based on 133 reviews, while audiences gave it a 94% “fresh” score on RT’s Popcornmeter based on 5,000-plus verified user ratings.
