The Wisconsin and UW-Milwaukee men’s basketball teams haven’t met since 2019. Their first meeting in six years could be a particularly challenging game for the Panthers.
That’s because UWM played a Horizon League game last night before taking the short trip to Madison, while the Badgers are coming off an eight-day holiday break.
The Panthers have played two games against power-conference opponents, losing at Indiana, 101-70, and at then-No. 11 Texas Tech, 80-63. They are also just 1-5 away from home.
The Badgers play their last non-conference game Dec. 30 before getting back into Big Ten play this weekend, hosting No. 5 Purdue. Wisconsin has won 19 straight non-league games at home and has lost just once to UWM since 1993.
UW-Milwaukee is getting impressive early results from freshman Josh Dixon, who was named Horizon League player of the week after averaging 26 points in a pair of matchups against South Dakota State and Cleveland State.
The Panthers, however, received some tough news this week.
Toledo transfer Seth Hubbard, who leads the Panthers in scoring, announced Dec. 29 that he’s out for the year with a shoulder injury.
The Badgers are already 5-0 against mid-major opponents this season, including an 88-61 victory over Central Michigan Dec. 22. The Badgers’ reserves enjoyed some extra minutes, scoring 44 points with Austin Rapp leading the way with 18.
