Steph Curry will miss at least another week as he continues to deal with a lingering knee injury.
The team announced Friday that its superstar point guard, who’s missed the last six games, will be re-evaluated in 10 days due to his ongoing patellofemoral pain syndrome, or “Runner’s Knee,” prompting a somewhat surprising response from frustrated Warriors fans suggesting to just sit Curry for the rest of the season.
Steve Kerr was confused by the idea, and the Warriors coach shared his response Friday on 95.7 The Game’s “Willard & Dibs.”
“Well, what are we protecting him for? We’re not going to do anything silly, obviously,” Kerr said. “We are protecting him. But as soon as he’s healthy, he’s going to play. That’s what this is about. We have lots to play for. We’re right in the mix in the playoffs. This is an injury that’s been nagging. It’s not like this is something that’s going to hurt him next year if we put him out there now.
“It’s just injury management. As soon as he’s healthy and ready to go, he’ll be out there.”
Curry spoke exclusively to NBC Sports Bay Area’s Dalton Johnson on Friday and shared an update on his health.
“Feeling good,” Curry said. “I mean, it’s not going the way that I wanted it to, but I think we’re in the right direction of getting back out there as fast as possible.”
In 39 games this season, Curry is averaging 27.2 points on 46.8-percent shooting from the field and 39.1 percent from 3-point range, with 3.5 rebounds and 4.8 assists.
“Obviously, I’d love to be playing right now,” Curry said. “If you’re healthy, you’re able to play. I’m headed in the right direction, and hopefully it won’t be too much longer.”
Curry and the Warriors don’t know when it might be, but they’re banking on his return this season.
Any other option is off the table.
