We are a few weeks away from the start of the NCAA Tournament, as the Kentucky Wildcats are fighting for seeding position as we enter the final game of the regular season.
Sitting at 19-11 and 10-7 in SEC play, the Cats are in a unique position as they welcome the Florida Gators to town on Saturday afternoon. With several SEC Tournament scenarios still in play, we could see the Cats take the floor on Wednesday in Nashville or even land the coveted double-bye. While all of that is in play, Kentucky will also be trying to gain some seed lines from the NCAA Tournament committee as well.
Will they jump back up to a 6 seed? Or will they ultimately hang around the seven or 8-seed line? At the moment, the 7-to-8 range seems the most likely.
Now, how deep of a run do we expect the Cats to go on? Before the season, this team was viewed as a title contender. After this up-and-down regular season, it wouldn’t shock many if they make the second weekend or if they lose in the first round.
At the moment, according to FanDuel, Kentucky currently holds the 20th-best odds to make the Final Four, as they sit at +2000. They share those odds with Nebraska, Virginia, and North Carolina.
For National Championship odds, FanDuel has them as quite the long shot. Sitting at +8000 at the moment, UK currently holds the 16th-best chance to win the title. They share those odds also with Nebraska, Virginia, North Carolina, and Alabama.
The most exciting time of the year in the sports world is almost here. It seems unlikely Kentucky can make a run, but let’s hope they can at least make it exciting and avoid a first-weekend exit heading into a very important offseason.
