When we last left Peter Sutherland (Gabriel Basso) in The Night Agent Season 2, he’d officially crossed the line from reluctant hero to full-fledged Night Action operative, stepping into a global role that promised higher stakes, bigger threats, and zero work-life balance. Season 3, launching Feb. 19, picks up on that momentum — but before throwing Peter back into the fire, it hits rewind, all the way back to where his story really began.
In the first eight minutes of The Night Agent Season 3, which you can watch above ahead of its premiere, we flash back to Peter’s childhood. He’s on the living room floor, playing with his toys, while his mom takes a phone call that’s clearly out of the ordinary. When she returns, she’s shaken and doing her best to mask her tears. She pulls Peter close and asks him to promise he’ll “always do the right thing, even when it’s hard.” Peter promises, showing us where our hero’s “do the hard thing” instinct really began.
That poignant moment helps explain Peter’s emotional state when Season 3 kicks off. After everything he’s endured in the first two seasons, Peter is operating with a new level of focus. “I think now that Peter isn’t having to balance his personal life and work life, he’s become more monomaniacal,” Basso tells Tudum. “Whether that’s a defense mechanism or whether it’s for the better, I guess it’s up to the viewer to decide. As for me, I enjoyed being able to fully commit to a capable and more focused version of Peter.”
When we snap back to the present, Peter is already deep in Night Action life, embedded in a covert international operation that shows just how far he’s come since his basement phone days. He keeps things efficient by playing middleman in a black-market intel deal — securing stolen military blueprints before flipping the switch on his sellers, making the call that brings authorities in, and slipping away.
And just as Peter is finding his footing, the stakes go airborne. A commercial flight is suddenly taken down in a missile attack, instantly raising questions about who’s responsible and what comes next. “I think what excites me most is that — with Peter’s sense of objective good and evil and with his willingness to operate ‘outside’ the law — he’s on a collision course with his own government,” Basso says, hinting at the danger awaiting Peter in Season 3.
