The latest Seattle Seahawks free agent buzz from ESPN report

The Seattle Seahawks “will attempt” to re-sign versatile, playmaking safety Coby Bryant in free agency, ESPN senior NFL writer Jeremy Fowler wrote as part of his “NFL free agency buzz” report on Sunday morning.

Which free agents will Seahawks re-sign? An insider’s take

Fowler added that Bryant is “one of the hotter names on the defensive side” of the free agent market and that he “has interest in returning to Seattle, but will have other suitors.”

Bryant is one of six starting-caliber pending free agents for the Super Bowl champion Seahawks. The NFL’s free agent negotiating window begins at 9 a.m. Monday, with the official signing period beginning at 1 p.m. Wednesday.

After beginning his career as a cornerback, the 6-foot-1, 193-pound Bryant has excelled in head coach Mike Macdonald’s defense since moving to safety and earning a starting job in 2024. Over the past two seasons, he’s filled up the stat sheet with seven interceptions, a pick-six, 13 pass breakups, five tackles for loss and two forced fumbles.

Below are a few more Seahawks-related notes from Fowler’s report.

• Fowler’s report did nothing to dissuade the widespread notion that Seahawks running back and Super Bowl MVP Kenneth Walker III will command more money on the open market than Seattle is willing to pay.

Fowler wrote that Walker “will consider” the New York Giants and Washington Commanders among his options in free agency, with the Tennessee Titans also a possibility. Fowler also mentioned the Denver Broncos and Kansas City Chiefs could “check on” Walker, depending on the price range.

With the New York Jets placing the franchise tag on running back Breece Hall last week, Walker is now the “market-setter” for this year’s free agent running back class, Fowler wrote. However, Fowler added that Jacksonville Jaguars running back Travis Etienne Jr. “will be right there in the mix.”

“Some teams I’ve talked to are setting the market’s ceiling at around $12 million,” Fowler wrote. “That could go up if enough teams get involved.”

• Seahawks edge rusher Boye Mafe also was mentioned multiple times in Fowler’s report. Fowler listed Mafe as one of several edge rushers the Dallas Cowboys will be eyeing. He also listed Mafe as a “viable edge option” for the Philadelphia Eagles if they aren’t able to re-sign Jaelan Phillips.

• Fowler expects the Las Vegas Raiders to “make a run” at speedy Seahawks wide receiver/return specialist Rashid Shaheed. That’s certainly no surprise, given Shaheed’s familiarity with new Raiders head coach Klint Kubiak. Kubiak was Shaheed’s offensive coordinator with the New Orleans Saints in 2024 and was his OC again with the Seahawks in 2025 after Shaheed arrived in a midseason trade.

“I’m expecting the Raiders to make a run at Rashid Shaheed depending on how the dominoes in the receiver market fall and the price point,” Fowler wrote. “New coach Klint Kubiak loves him. But Vegas’ bigger need is the offensive line.”

This past Wednesday, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that Shaheed wasn’t close to a contract extension with the Seahawks and was expected to test the open market.
