Eagle-eyed fans of the Christmas classic have spotted a major error that has remained undetected for a quarter of a century

The live-action Christmas film features Jim Carrey as the eponymous emerald curmudgeon and is based on Dr. Seuss’s enduring 1957 children’s story. The tale takes place in the enchanting town of Whoville, where its jovial inhabitants are enthusiastically preparing for their yuletide celebrations.
The Grinch, a bitter creature living in solitude atop Mount Crumpit with his loyal dog Max, holds profound animosity towards the Whos and their seasonal joy.
Driven by his loathing of Christmas and the Whos’ materialistic preoccupations, the Grinch devises a plot to “steal Christmas” by sneaking into Whoville during the night to snatch their presents, ornaments, and holiday banquet on Christmas Eve.
The movie has collected an remarkable 18 accolades and earned 37 nominations, establishing its position as one of the most celebrated Christmas films ever made. However, despite its triumph, sharp-eyed viewers have recently identified an error they argue ruins the whole viewing experience, reports the Mirror.
TikTok user @cobweb drew attention to a glaring continuity blunder in one scene where Jim Carrey’s natural brown eyes are plainly visible instead of the Grinch’s characteristic vivid green ones.
This diminishes some of the enchantment from the moment, with one disappointed viewer complaining: “You ruined it for me.” Others expressed their amazement, with one declaring: “I just screamed. I’ve never seen this.”
However, some viewers found the mistake quite intriguing. One admirer gushed: “I freaking love little details like this.” At the same time, one fan admitted: “I’ve watched the Grinch so many times and never noticed this.”
One speculated: “Jim Carrey actually hated this costume so it wouldn’t surprise me if he was trying to get away with not wearing the contacts,” as another viewer shared: “Okay but why is his normal eyes so much more unsettling than the contacts…? just me.”
