The Buffalo Sabres are finalizing a trade to acquire defenseman Colton Parayko from the St. Louis Blues, TSN’s Darren Dreger reports.
Defenseman Radim Mrtka and a first-round pick are part of the package going to St. Louis, Dreger reports. Buffalo drafted Mrtka ninth overall in 2025.
Parayko is under contract through 2030 at $6.5 million per year. He has a full no-movement clause and needs to approve the deal.
The 32-year-old has registered 14 points in 58 games this season and is one of the NHL’s premier shutdown defenders. He represented Canada at the Olympics and the 4 Nations Face-Off and was an integral piece of the Blues’ Stanley Cup championship in 2019.
The Sabres and Blues reportedly discussed a trade involving Robert Thomas on Tuesday, but nothing materialized.
The Sabres are in the race to win the Atlantic Division. They trail the Tampa Bay Lightning by two points with two extra games played. Buffalo’s 14-year playoff drought is the longest in NHL history.
