Pop icon vows to ‘never perform in the US again’ for ‘extremely sensitive reasons’

Britney Spears believes that her time playing for U.S. audiences has come to an end.

The pop music legend said in an Instagram post Thursday, Jan. 8 that she “will never perform in the U.S. again because of extremely sensitive reasons.”

In the post, which contained a picture of Spears sitting on stage at a piano, the singer wrote, “Sending this piano to my son this year!!! Interestingly enough, I dance on IG to heal things in my body that people have no idea about. Yup and it’s embarrassing sometimes… but I walked through the fire to save my life.”

Spears continued, “I will never perform in the U.S. again because of extremely sensitive reasons but I hope to be sitting on a stool with a red rose in my hair, in a bun, performing with my son… in the UK and AUSTRALIA very soon. He’s a huge star and I’m so humbled to be in his presence!!! God speed, little man!!!”

Spears did not name which son she was referring to. The pop star shares two children with her ex-husband Kevin Federline: Jayden, 19, and Preston, 20. Spears previously described Jayden as a “genius” in a March 2025 Instagram post that featured a video of him playing the piano, Us Weekly Reported.

“I’m in awe of him,” she wrote in the post. “I can’t believe he’s mine!!! I was honestly scared that’s not normal!!!”

Spears has not performed live since the final show of her “Piece of Me Tour,” which was held in Austin, Texas in October 2018. In January 2019, Spears announced an indefinite hiatus from performing and canceled her planned concert residents, “Britney: Domination,” The New York Times reported at the time.

Spears later entered in a legal battle with her father over her conservatorship, which was terminated in November 2021. In September 2022, Spears stated that she will “probably never perform again” because of the trauma that stemmed from the conservatorship, Rolling Stone reported at the time.
