Reader Sheela Percelay submitted this photo with the following comment: “Imagine my surprise this morning when I went to pour a cup of coffee and saw my favorite tree of 84 years felled by this storm. I guess I’m a heavier sleeper than I thought, since I didn’t hear a thing when it must have come crashing down. Luckily, this massive laurel fell parallel to my house. Otherwise it would have shattered two large picture windows facing my back yard. I’m 96 and didn’t expect to outlast this old friend.” The photo was taken Feb. 23, 2026.
