Nike Book 2 teaser trailer; release date set

Devin Booker’s second iteration of his Book sneaker, the Nike Book 2, will launch to the public on Friday.

Nike announced the exact date with a teaser trailer that dropped on Monday.

“Eventually, everyone needs a professional. Whether he’s your first option or your last shot, they always call his number,” a narrator says as Booker takes a phone call for a job fit for a secret agent.

The Phoenix Suns guard heads to the basement to gear up and put in the prep work for the job. A computer and some technology fit for the early 1990s — Booker was born in 1991 — is laid out on the table, and he opens a briefcase revealing his Book 2 shoes.

“That’s why he keeps a low profile, locks it down in isolation,” the narrator says. “When he catches ’em slipping’ — and he always catches ’em slipping — pull up. Bang. Game time.”

Nike revealed the look of the second chapter in Booker’s shoe design in November.

It keeps some of the elements from the Book 1s that were wearable on the street as much as on the court. The Book 2s advance Booker’s desires on the court with a lower profile.

“For the Book 1, we were inspired by classic cars, where the engine is supercharged and tuned up but the outside looks classic,” said Ben Nethongkome, the lead designer for Booker’s signature shoes. “That approach cascaded to the Book 2, cloaking the innovation underneath.

“We lowered the profile of the shoe for enhanced court feel, and because we removed materials to get lower to the ground, we were able to move the Air Zoom unit from the heel to the forefoot — achieving Devin’s desired feel and performance at a lighter weight.”
