Frisco resident wins $2 million in Texas Lottery scratch-off game – NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth

A Frisco resident claimed the first of four top prize-winning tickets worth $5 million in the Texas Lottery scratch ticket game Golden Riches.

The winning scratch-off ticket was purchased for $50 at Tom Thumb at 4848 Preston Road in Frisco and was claimed on Feb. 18.

The winner asked to remain anonymous.

The Texas Lottery is required to withhold federal taxes of 24% for prizes over $5,000. A $2 million prize would push the winner into the highest income tax bracket, and they’d likely owe an additional 13% to the federal government. Texas does not tax lottery winnings, so after paying 37% to the federal government, the winner would have about $1.26 million left over.

Tom Thumb may also be eligible for a $10,000 bonus under the Texas Lottery’s Retailer Bonus Program.

There are approximately 4,651,020 tickets in Golden Riches, and the overall odds of winning any prize are 1 in 3.76, according to the Texas Lottery.

The winning ticket was the first of four $2 million prizes to be claimed in the game. In addition to the grand prizes, the game offers cash prizes of $10,000, $2,000, $500, $400, $250, $150, $100 and $50.

In August, a Frisco resident claimed $5 million in the $5 Million Royale scratch-off game. The winning ticket was purchased for $50 at the RaceTrac gas station on Eldorado Parkway, about 7 miles from the Frisco Tom Thumb.
