Free public transit in New Orleans for Transit Equity Day
NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — All public buses, streetcars and ferries will be free in New Orleans Wednesday, Feb. 4 for Transit Equity Day.
According to the New Orleans Regional Transit Authority, Transit Equity Day is a celebration of Rosa Parks’ birthday and the legacy of Claudette Colvin, two major figures in the Civil Rights Movement. This year’s observance comes nearly three weeks after Colvin’s death.

RTA officials said this is an opportunity to recognize other civil rights champions who have advanced equity in public transit.
