LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — The family of a child killed in a hostage situation involving his father earlier this month held a press conference with their attorneys on Friday afternoon.
According to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, the child, identified as 3-year-old Kentre Baker, was held hostage by his father, Quinton Baker, on Feb. 3 at an apartment complex in the 8400 block of South Maryland Parkway.

Police say the child was shot by his father, who was pointing a gun at him as he approached officers at the scene. He later died from his injuries at a hospital.
The father was also shot by officers after discharging his weapon and would later die at the scene.
The child’s mother, Raneka Pate, has retained counsel. She says she disputes the claims made by LVMPD on how her son died.
The family’s attorney Ofelia Markarian says they are moving towards filing a complaint against LVMPD, which could result in a wrongful death lawsuit against the department.
Pate noted that her son’s funeral is on Saturday and says that she wants justice and the “true” story of what happened that night to be told.
This is a developing story, check back later for updates.
