The Florida Institute for Built Environment Resilience (FIBER) held its first “FIBER Optics Friday” event in the John and Anne Sofarelli Family Gallery Friday morning, spotlighting how advanced technologies are transforming resilience research in the built environment.

The inaugural guest speaker was University of Florida Department of Urban and Regional Planning Assistant Scientist Changjie Chen, Ph.D. Chen’s speech was titled, “Demystifying Digital Twins for Building Resilient Environments. He explained what a digital twin was and what it can do compared to other tools, while also giving tips to students in the room interested in using digital twins for their research. Calling it a “paradigm shift,” Chen explained how digital twin development is much more than a buzzword – it’s a real, established field.
