Beloved country music singer ‘barely alive’ after breaking neck in interstate crash

Beloved country music singer JD Graham is still alive after a recent horrific interstate crash, and it sounds like he is lucky to be able to say that.

Graham checked in with fans on social media from his hospital bed, wearing a neck brace, Wednesday night.

“Hey folks. Here I sit,” he said in the clip posted to his Facebook. “I’m barely alive here. Thank you guys. I’m still discombobulated, but my daughter said that people are helping out with some things. We got a broken back, broken ribs, broken heart, dog died that was in the car with me.

“It’s a tragedy,” he added. “Thank you guys for the support, and I hope to see you guys soon. I’m not too worried about music stuff right now at all. I just got to get better. Just giving you guys an update. Later. Love you.”

According to a GoFundMe set up by his daughter, Destiny Graham, JD was in the crash on Feb. 24.

“My dad, Jeremy Graham, was involved in a very serious accident on the interstate,” Destiny wrote on the GoFundMe. “He was hit by one semi and then slammed into another. The crash was severe, and first responders had to cut him out of his vehicle. He was taken to a nearby hospital and then life flighted to a trauma center in Texas, where he is currently being treated.”

She wrote that the family was still waiting on “several tests to understand the full extent of his injuries, but we do know this is going to be a long and difficult recovery.”

“He has a broken neck, a broken back, and several broken ribs, and he will be unable to walk for some time,” the GoFundMe post continued. “Watching something go through something like this has been incredibly hard for all of us.”

Destiny Graham wrote that the outpouring of love and support from musicians has “been absolutely incredibly to witness.”

Adding to the situation, she wrote that her stepmom, Amy, just finished a battle with cancer and is unable to work due to that.

“As many of you know, my dad travels all over the country for his job and had many important shows coming up that he now won’t be able to attend,” she continued. “Life doesn’t slow down though bills still come, responsibilities continue, and right now we don’t even know how long we will need to stay here in Texas or when we will be able to go home.”

She said when her father is able to return home he will “have a long road ahead with extensive physical and mental rehabilitation.”

“If you know my dad, you know the kind of person he is,” she wrote. “He is the best grandpa, dad, husband, and friend anyone could ask for, and the support being shown to him right now means everything to our family.

“Thank you for continuing to put him in your prayers and for loving our family so well.”

SavingCountryMusic.com called Graham “a rare specimen,” and “a songwriter’s songwriter.”
