‘Baton’ Movie From Danny Ramirez Adds Five To Cast (EXCLUSIVE)

EXCLUSIVE: Danny Ramirez has added five to the stacked cast of his feature directorial debut, Baton: Edgar Ramírez (Emilia Pérez), Eugenio Derbez (CODA), Rosario Dawson (Ahsoka), Gabriel Luna (The Last Of Us), and Mía Maestro (The Motorcycle Diaries).

Character details are under wraps. Ramirez is directing the drama from his own script and also leads the cast, which as we recently reported, also includes Maia Reficco, Diego Calva, Camila Mendes, Ester Expósito, Becky G, Noah Beck, and Lewis Pullman.

Currently in production in Atlanta, Baton follows a soccer player (Ramirez), relentlessly pursuing his dream of playing professionally, who threatens his relationship with his sister after he is kicked off the team and exiled back to Miami. As they battle over their mother’s legacy, he will stop at nothing to get another chance at soccer glory, even if it means losing the only family he has left.

Arriving as soccer takes center stage globally with the upcoming FIFA World Cup, the film’s producers include Victoria Alonso (Avengers: Endgame, Argentina, 1985) for Mapuche, Tom Culliver and Ramirez for the recently launched Pinstripes (Dead Man’s Wire), Joshua Harris for Peachtree Media (We Bury the Dead, Mary), and Ford Corbett for Gramercy Park Media (The Shitheads, The Surfer).

David Beckham and Nicola Howson are exec producing for Studio 99, alongside Carlos Delgado Zarco for Level Up, R. Wesley Sierk III for CaliWood Pictures, Nathan Klingher and Mark Fasano for Gramercy Park, Christopher Renteria, Harry Ahluwahlia, Elizaveta Chalenko, Carlo Salem, Carl Kawaja, Martin Romo, and Alexandra Tynion and Olivia Tyson for Tricky Knot.

Baton is being introduced to buyers at EFM by newly launched foreign sales firm Manifest Pictures and Gramercy Park Media, with WME Independent and CAA overseeing domestic rights.

Most recently seen in Jacques Audiard’s Oscar winner Emilia Pérez, Ramírez’s upcoming slate also includes Drake Doremus’ romantic drama Next Life, among many other projects. He is represented by CAA, Impression Entertainment, and Hirsch Wallerstein Hayum.

Derbez has recently been seen starring in the Apple series Acapulco. Next up, he’ll be seen starring opposite Camila Mendes in Carlos López Estrada’s drama Ded. He is repped by CAA, Behr, Abramson, Levy, Johnson.

Recently seen starring in Disney+’s Ahsoka, Dawson is repped by CAA and Untitled Entertainment.

Recent credits for Luna include The Last of Us, which is heading into its third season, and Devil in Disguise: John Wayne Gacy. Next to be seen in The Terminal List Season 2 on Prime Video, he is repped by UTA, Entertainment 360, and Ziffren Brittenham.

Known for her work in projects like The Motorcycle Diaries, The Strain, and Mayans M.C., Maestro is repped by Paradigm and Untitled.
