Passengers evacuated a concourse at Reagan National Airport outside Washington, D.C., on Thursday morning as authorities investigated a suspicious package.
The suspicious package was found in a break room at the airport about 9 a.m., the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority (MWAA) said.
Airport police established a safety perimeter and cleared passengers from the D Concourse, MWAA said.
Police are investigating the item. Officials didn’t say why the package was considered suspicious.
Concourse D is in Terminal 2 and serves American Airlines.
The evacuation comes as Transportation Security Administration employees go without paychecks during a partial government shutdown affecting the Department of Homeland Security.
