Monkey D. Luffy—aka just Luffy—from One Piece would not listen to reggaeton or sad music.
In an exclusive interview with Remezcla, Netflix’s One Piece cast members, Mexican actor Iñaki Godoy and Spanish-British actor Taz Skylar, told us who they think would be on their playlist of Luffy and Sanji. And spoiler alert: for Godoy, it’s not the most famous Latine artist of the moment—or one of Mexico’s most romantic classic ballad singers.
Godoy and Skylar are living their best lives, promoting the upcoming season of One Piece. Last month, Godoy participated in Mexican lucha libre, and spent a whole day of One Piece-themed activities with his fans in Mexico City. Fast forward to last week (Mar. 6), both actors were also part of the 2026 World Baseball Classic in Japan, with Godoy pitching a ball as part of the series’ promotion with the rest of the castmembers. Not only were both promoting the new season with out-of-the-box activities all over the map, but they were also doing classic press junkets that give insight into their characters of Luffy and Sanji from their POV.
Remezcla was able to join the One Piece universe in Netflix’s studios in Hollywood, CA, on February 26. To further pick the live-action Luffy’s whimsical brain, we asked Godoy which Latine artist his character would listen to. When answering the question alongside Skylar, Godoy responded: “I think Luffy would vibe with mariachis and stuff like that, I guess because he likes the instruments and the sounds of it. I don’t think he would like stuff like José José because it’s too sad for him. I think he would like the uplifting music about partying.”

While responding, Skylar interjected his answer, suggesting Luffy would be “jamming” to Bad Bunny. Godoy said, “Bad Bunny? Uhhh, you think that? I think he’s more into ‘El mariachi loco quiere bailar,’ or like ‘Ya llego Sergio el Bailador,’ like wedding music—I think that’s what Luffy likes. Like whatever they play at weddings, like when they’re dancing to like the cumbias and all that stuff.”
During the conversation, Skylar also responded to what his live-action character, Sanji, would listen to. He thinks his character would listen to the likes of Cuban salsa musician Fresto. He put on “Me Hace Daño Verte,” demonstrating the tropical vibe that Sanji would potentially be into. “¡Un temazo! [What a song!]” he said.
One Piece: Into the Grand Line is now available on Netflix.
