A former Buffalo Bills first-round pick that has since departed wester New York looks like he will be destined for another new NFL home soon.
According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Chicago Bears linebacker Tremaine Edmunds has been granted permission to seek a trade ahead of the league’s free agency period beginning on March 11:
In a follow-up report from Bears Wire, it was noted that reports indicate that Edmunds already has a “decent chance” to be traded. It is also said that Edmunds is going to be a salary cap casualty for the Bears in one way or another, leading to his availability via trade.
Teams reportedly interested in Edmunds include the Tennessee Titans, Las Vegas Raiders and New York Giants, but not the Bills.
Chicago signed Edmunds to a four-year, $72 million contract back in 2023 and he is entering the final year of the deal. The Bears would save $15 million in salary cap space if he is moved or released.
Edmunds, 27, was the other first-round selection at No. 16 overall by Buffalo in 2018 alongside quarterback Josh Allen.
Edmunds performed well with the the Bills and was a two-time Pro Bowler with the team. However, he was viewed as a player that would depart Buffalo at the end of his rookie contract because of salary cap constraints at the time.
