“Lanterns” centers around Hal Jordan (Kyle Chandler) and new recruit John Stewart (Aaron Pierre) as they investigate a murder in Nebraska. As Green Lanterns, the two are intergalactic peacekeepers who wear emerald rings that give them the power to create green light constructs of any shape or size. The two must use their abilities to uncover a dark mystery and a reckoning that could destroy them all.
The trailer shows the buddy-cop relationship between Hal and John as the elder Green Lantern shows the new recruit the ropes. In the opening moments, Hal drives a car off a cliff and forces John to use his quick thinking and Green Lantern powers to save himself. The two must learn to work together to solve the mysterious murder in the small town. There’s a quick shot of the Green Lantern costume, a ring and the power battery — plus a reference to Ch’p, an extraterrestrial Green Lantern who looks like a squirrel.
Other cast members include Kelly Macdonald as Kerry, a small-town sheriff; Nathan Fillion reprising his “Superman” role as Guy Gardner, a member of the Green Lantern Corps and Justice Gang; Garret Dillahunt as William Macon, a modern-day cowboy; Poorna Jagannathan as Zoe, a composed and cunning woman; Ulrich Thomsen as Sinestro, a former member of the Green Lanterns Corp that has gone rogue; Nicole Ari Parker as Bernadette Stewart, John’s mother; and Jason Ritter as Billy Macon, Kerry’s husband.
Sherman Augustus will portray John Stewart Sr., with Paul Ben-Victor as Antaan, an extraterrestrial who is devoted to finding the truth. Chris Coy will play Waylon Sanders, a truck driver whose real identity is unknown, alongside Cary Christopher as Noah, a gifted child. Laura Linney and Paula Patton have been cast in the series in undisclosed roles.
“Lanterns” is created by Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof, and Tom King. The series is executive produced by Mundy, Lindelof, King, James Gunn, Peter Safran, James Hawes, and Ron Schmidt. “Lanterns” is produced by DC Studios and Warner Bros. Television.
