The Nashville Predators have traded forward Cole Smith to the Vegas Golden Knights on March 3.
The Predators will get a 2028 third-round pick and defenseman Christoffer Sedoff in return for Smith, who will be an unrestricted free agent after the season.
Sedoff, 24, has been playing for the Henderson Silver Knights in the AHL. The 6-foot-2, 209-pound Sedoff has appeared in 145 career AHL games since his debut in the 2023-24 season. He was undrafted and is a native of Helsinki, Finland.
Smith, 30, played in 42 games for the Predators this season, scoring six goals and four assists. In six seasons with Nashville, Smith has played 271 games, mostly as a fourth-line, penalty-killing winger.
An undrafted forward out of North Dakota, Smith broke through with the Predators in 2020 under former coach John Hynes. His speed and forechecking ability gave a nice boost to the bottom half of the lineup for Nashville, especially on the penalty kill. Smith found instant chemistry with Michael McCarron during the 2022-23 season and the two have been a consistent pair over the past four seasons.
This trade comes on the heels of the Predators also moving Michael McCarron to the Minnesota Wild on March 3. They received a 2028 second-round pick from the Wild in that deal.
