Fans Speculate Gordon Ramsay May Join ‘Tournament of Champions’ Season 7 as a Secret Icon

Before I watch a single minute of Tournament of Champions season 7, I’m putting my guesses on the record of who I think the secret icons are.

Yes, I do receive screeners for Tournament of Champions — and no, I have not watched the season 7 premiere yet. Food Network has been teasing that four “culinary legends” will enter the TOC VII bracket as top seeds, with their identities kept secret until they walk into the arena. The premiere episode will reveal the first one.

But before that happens, I wanted my predictions locked in.

Earlier this week, Food Network posted silhouette images of the four mystery chefs with the caption: “Four culinary legends are joining the TOC competition this year, but we’re keeping them a surprise until their battle. Can you guess who they are??”

Fans immediately went into detective mode.

One commenter wrote, “1. Ming Tsai 2. Morimoto 3. Jonathan Waxman 4. Eric Ripert.”

Another chimed in with, “1. Ming Tsai 2. Morimoto 3. Jonathan Waxman 4. wait for it Wolfgang Puck.”

And then there’s the name that stirred the most cross-network chaos: Gordon Ramsay.

“I noticed @gordongram show Kitchen Nightmares has suddenly appeared on @foodnetwork Coincidence?” one fan asked, referencing the fact that Ramsay’s show Kitchen Nightmares, which airs on FOX, recently had its first season added to Food Network Go.

Another replied, “AGREEEEE!!!! 😮,” while a third added, “Great guess, looks like 4 could be Gordon.”

Would Ramsay actually cross networks to compete on a Food Network flagship series? It would be shocking. His current lineup of shows airs on FOX, and a competition appearance would be a major moment. But if Food Network somehow pulled it off, the fourth silhouette—the most disguised of the bunch and also presumably the final one to be revealed—would be the one.

Meanwhile, several fans pointed toward Masaharu Morimoto and Ming Tsai. And frankly, those two silhouettes do look eerily close.

Jonathan Waxman is another strong possibility for the third figure, though some fans think it could be Michael Symon or Andrew Zimmern.

There’s also debate about whether one of the icons could be female. Some viewers suggested Lorena Garcia, noting the second silhouette appears to have longer sleeves and could have their hair back in a ponytail. During earlier teaser clips in the qualifying episodes, one backlit figure did appear female.

Of course, Bobby Flay remains one of the most persistent fan theories. Multiple commenters wrote variations of “Will Bobby Flay finally compete?” and “If you tell me icon, I want Bobby!” The longtime Food Network star has never entered the TOC arena as a competitor, which makes him a logical pick for the “icon” twist.

That said, none of the silhouettes appear to match Flay’s profile particularly well—though if he were somehow disguising his stance, the fourth figure would be the only plausible option.

Now, for my official guesses — locked in before I watch the premiere:

Notably, the icons cannot be any of the already-announced judges this season, which include Alex Guarnaschelli, Cat Cora, Curtis Stone, David Chang, Dominique Crenn, Geoffrey Zakarian, Hubert Keller, Judy Joo, Ken Oringer, Marcus Samuelsson, Michelle Bernstein, Nancy Silverton, Rocco DiSpirito, Scott Conantand Susan Feniger.

Whoever they are, the reveal begins Sunday, March 1 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on Food Network—and now my guesses are officially on the record.

We’ll see how wrong I am soon enough.
