SAG Actor Awards 2026: Best, worst and wildest red carpet looks of all time from Margot Robbie, Emma Stone, Pedro Pascal and more

The rebranded SAG Awards are almost here. The show, which is now called The Actor Awards, will take place tonight — Sunday, March 1 — at 8 p.m. EST / 5 p.m PST. Kristen Bell returns as host this year for the star-studded event that will stream live on Netflix.

This year’s Actor Awards is unlike other awards shows: it has an official red carpet theme. Much like the Met Gala, guests and nominees were given a dress code to help guide their red carpet attire. This year’s theme, which was chosen by the event’s partner Elle, is “Reimagining Hollywood Glamour From the ’20s and ’30s.”

According to Elle, the theme encourages guests to take a page from the flapper era, the Zigfield Follies, Art Deco design and surrealist designers like Schiaparelli for inspiration.

As we excitedly await this year’s red carpet, we’re taking a look back at some of the best and worst red carpet looks from the SAG Awards over the years.

BEST: Catherine Zeta Jones (2003)

In the early days of the SAG Awards, the red carpet was a mix of casual cocktail attire and red carpet gowns. Zeta Jones’s gold Elie Saab gown on the 2003 red carpet was a stand-out moment that raised the stakes for all who followed.

WORST: Emily Blunt (2019)

Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role for 'Mary Poppins Returns' and Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role in 'A Quiet Place' nominee Emily Blunt arrives for the 25th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles on January 27, 2019. Blunt’s custom Michael Kors gown had all the makings of a classic red carpet look. However, thanks to its ruffled details, it quickly went viral and was dubbed a “vagina dress” on social media. Once you see it, it’s hard to ignore!

BEST: Emma Stone (2024)

Stone’s silver halter gown by Louis Vuitton at the 2024 SAG Awards was a work of art. The breathtaking gown featured elaborate crystal and pearl beading in a soft floral pattern, with pops of purple, green and blue.

WORST: Margot Robbie (2020)

Long before Robbie gave a master class in method dressing during the Wuthering Heights and Barbie press tours, she was being held captive by a brand partnership with Chanel. For years, the Australian actress only wore Chanel looks on the red carpet — and while some were good, some like this ruffled plaid disaster, were very, very bad.

BEST: Zendaya (2023)

Zendaya’s pink floral Valentino gown was a sophisticated standout at the 2023 SAG Awards. Although she changed into look once inside, it remains one of her most memorable — and elegant — red carpet looks to date.

WORST: Reese Witherspoon (2018)

Witherspoon’s off-the-shoulder Zac Posen gown at the 2018 SAG Awards was an ill-fitting and unflattering choice. The silk gown with a chevron pattern and ruffled detail was a dowdy and matronly choice for the Oscar-winning Hollywood powerhouse.

BEST: Lupita Nyong’o (2014)

In 2014, Nyong’o was the belle of awards season for her performance in 12 Years a Slave. She quickly became one to watch on the red carpet thanks to standout looks like this turquoise Gucci gown with ornate floral detailing at the neckline.

WORST: Rachel McAdams (2007)

To be fair, this white and silver minidress was the ultimate look for a night out in 2007 — but maybe not for a red carpet. The look’s lack of structure, the colour palette and the awkward length were definitely not befitting one of the most talented actors in Hollywood.

BEST: Sarah Jessica Parker (2000)

Sarah Jessica Parker’s Richard Tyler suit with carnation detail was something straight out of Carrie Bradshaw’s closet. The tailoring, the buttons and the wild curls? It’s SJP at her best.

WORST: Jennifer Lawrence (2011)

Lawrence’s bright pink Oscar de la Renta gown didn’t quite work with her colouring or styling. The fit, sash and makeup made this look feel chaotic and not put together.

BEST: Pedro Pascal (2024)

Pascal isn’t afraid to bend the rules on the red carpet — or break them. His Prada shirt and pants in 2024 were a refreshing take on men’s evening wear that captured his playful, romantic and artistic personality.

WORST: Kate Hudson (2018)

It’s rare that Hudson steps outside her comfort zone on the red carpet, but this Valentino gown was a playful and somewhat youthful design that didn’t quite translate to the red carpet. A swing and a miss.

BEST: Angelina Jolie (2012)

Jolie’s Jenny Packham gown in 2012 was the perfect choice for the Oscar-winning actress. It was edgy, sexy and showed off her infamous back tattoos.

WORST: January Jones (2013)

Jones’s Prabal Gurung gown and styling was a severe choice for the red carpet. From the hair to the makeup and the neckline, nothing quite worked with this look.

BEST: Dakota Fanning (2020)
