‘SNL’ Cast Member Reveals Story on Meeting Taylor Swift for the First Time

Meeting Taylor Swift is a story most people would never forget.

During a recent appearance on the podcast Therapuss, Saturday Night Livecast member Marcello Hernández opened up about the first and only time he had met the global pop star after host Jake Shane asked whether he’d ever crossed paths with her.

The two entertainers sat across from each other in Shane’s iconic studio, designed like a therapist’s office. Hernández asked if there was someone Shane hadn’t yet booked on his show that he would want to have on. The 26-year-old host quickly responded with “Taylor Swift,” before turning the question back on the comedian and asking if he had ever met her.

“I met her once,” Hernández responded. “She was sweet. She was with Travis [Kelce] at an [SNL] afterparty, and I brought shots, so we did like a shot together. She’s cool.”

Hernández has been a cast member on SNL since the sketch comedy show’s 48th season. Since joining in 2022, the 28-year-old comedian has been the star of many viral sketches, including the famous “Domingo” sketch, where he plays a past Latin lover of a bride named Kelsey (Chloe Fineman). His first Netflix stand-up special, American Boy, was released on Jan. 7.

In the podcast, the two also talked about how Hernández met his girlfriend, Ana Amelia Battle Cabral, as well as his knowledge of astrology, what it was like to film his Netflix special and how he got his spot on SNL.

Hernández grew up in Miami with a Cuban mother and a Dominican father, which is the basis of a lot of his stand-up material. Before joining SNL, he did comedy and short-form videos on various social media channels, such as the weekly review show, Only in Dade, about Miami on TikTok. In addition, the comedian played Esteban in Happy Gilmore 2, and is set to voice characters in animated films coming out this year and next, such as 72 Hours, The Angry Birds Movie 3 and Shrek 5.

Premiered in early January 2024, new episodes of Therapuss come out every Wednesday at 10 p.m ET, and can be streamed on Spotify, Apple Podcasts and Netflix. Some video episodes can also be found on Shane’s YouTube channel.
