On Monday, the Patriots announced they have released running back Antonio Gibson, which was expected. The move saves the Patriots $3.1 million in cap space while incurring a dead-money charge of $1 million.
Gibson appeared in 22 games (three starts) for the Patriots over two seasons after inking a three-year, $11.2 million deal in 2024.
Gibson tallied 120 carries for 538 yards and one touchdown while adding 23 catches for 206 yards in 2024.
In 2025, Gibson played in just five games before tearing his ACL. He carried the rock 25 times for 106 yards and one score and added two receptions for six yards.

Along with his role on offense, Gibson was also a contributor on special teams, where he served as a return man.
Because of his injury and the emergence of 2025 draft pick TreVeyon Henderson, the writing was on the wall that Gibson wasn’t going to be back.
With Gibson gone, the most notable players under contract at running back for the Patriots are Henderson, Rhamondre Stevenson and Terrell Jennings.
