There’s a lot of hype surrounding the Boston Celtics right now, and for good reason. Not only is the team holding onto second place in the Eastern Conference, but it also appears as if superstar forward Jayson Tatum is closing in on a return to action after missing the entire season to this point while recovering from a torn Achilles tendon that he suffered in the playoffs last year.
The latest evidence that Tatum could be back on the court sooner rather than later came via pictures shared to the C’s social media accounts of him scrimmaging against the team. Tatum was also present for Boston’s practice on Saturday, with head coach Joe Mazzulla curiously refusing to reveal whether or not he’d be participating. And despite all that, Tatum is still holding his cards close to his chest.
“I do not have a date,” Tatum said when speaking to reporters on Saturday. “I just take it one day at a time. I feel better than I did yesterday. That’s what is most important.”
Considering how well the Celtics have been playing without Tatum, getting him back could be a complete game-changer. There’s still no confirmation that he will return to action this season, but every update makes it seem more and more likely that Tatum is just days away from playing for Boston.
For the time being, Tatum is still working his way back to full health, meaning the C’s are going to have to continue holding down the fort in his absence. Boston will be back in action on Sunday night when it squares off against the Los Angeles Lakers at 6:30 p.m. ET.
