The St. Cloud Police Department reports St. Cloud’s Hallie Tobler, 22, was stabbed to death Saturday evening.
Police officers responded to a medical emergency at shortly after 8:15 p.m. Feb. 7 at a residence on the 3100 block of 40th Ave. S. Hallie Tobler was found dead while her husband, 23-year-old Dylan Tobler, was found with life-threatening injuries, according to an SCPD release. The couple got married in November 2021, according to Minnesota marriage records.
Dylan Tobler was taken to St. Cloud Hospital, where he remained as of Sunday evening, according to the release. St. Cloud investigators allege in a release that he stabbed his wife to death, and that his wounds appear to be self-inflicted. He is in stable condition, St. Cloud police said Sunday evening.
St. Cloud police state Dylan Tobler, who is in custody, will be taken to the Stearns County Jail when he is discharged from the hospital. Charges related to homicide could be filed, according to the SCPD release.
The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is assisting with the case, according to the release. Meanwhile, the Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office performed an autopsy of Hallie Tobler, confirming death by stab wounds. Those with any information regarding the case are asked to contact Tri-County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-255-1301 or the St. Cloud Police Department at 320-251-1200.
This is St. Cloud’s first homicide of 2026. The Granite City had five homicides last year, of which three were fatal stabbings. At least two of those 2025 homicides were related to domestic violence involving intimate partners.
Hallie Tobler is the daughter of former St. Cloud City Council member Jeff Johnson, who is a Republican candidate for governor. Johnson has suspended his gubernatorial campaign, according to the Republican Party of Minnesota.
“There are no words that can adequately express the sorrow we feel for Jeff and his family,” the Republican Party of Minnesota wrote in a Facebook post. “The loss of a child is unimaginable, and our thoughts and prayers are with them as they grieve this devastating tragedy.”
